UC Santa Cruz Department of Anthropology Associate Professor Mayanthi Fernando will receive the School for Advanced Research Weatherhead resident fellowship for 2018-2019. This prestigious, nine-month residential fellowship is awarded to just two scholars per year who work in the humanities or social sciences. Fellows receive a stipend in addition to housing and office space on the SAR campus in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Fernando's areas of research include secularism, Islam, religious minorities in France/Europe, political pluralism. She received her B.A. from Harvard University and M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.
