Declaring the Major

Students are encouraged to declare the major as early as possible in their academic careers. Declaring the major is a three step process.

  1. Start at your college office. Pick up a Declaration of Major form and have a college academic advisor complete and sign Section 1.

  2. Bring your form to the Anthropology Department Office. You can work with the undergraduate advisor, peer advisors, and faculty to design a preliminary academic plan. Once you have a preliminary plan, have Section 2 of the form filled out and signed by a permanent faculty member. The Anthropology Department does not assign faculty advisors; you may choose according to your interests.

  3. Bring your form back to the department office. The undergraduate advisor will give the form a final review and sign Section 3.
If you are a transfer student, you must provide the department with a copy of your UCSC Transfer Credit Summary and an unofficial copy of your transcript(s) from any institution where you took classes that you plan to apply to the Anthropology major.
